Rising Star Indonesia is a reality singing competition of Israeli origin that began airing on RCTI on 28 August 2014. This program is based on the Israeli singing competition, HaKokhav HaBa and produced by Israel-based, Keshet Media, Rising Star. The program format lets viewers vote for contestants via mobile apps.

This format adds to the list of RCTI sing competition formats along with Indonesian Idol and X Factor Indonesia. Traditionally, only one singing competition per year was broadcast. In 2014, two formats were broadcast: Indonesian Idol Season 8 and Rising Star Indonesia. Fabian Dharmawan, the showrunner for most international formats in RCTI, was appointed by the network to produce the new singing competition format. His works includes Indonesian Idol 2012–2014 and X Factor Indonesia.

Rising Star Indonesia began airing on 28 August 2014 after hold auditions in five cities in Indonesia.[1] The final round of Rising Star Indonesia held on December 19, 2014. This round brings Rossa, Judika, Ahmad Dhani, etc. as a guest expert to accompany the main expert remains Bebi Romeo after Millane Fernandez, Lilo and Andien resigned as the main experts.

Unlike the other talent that leaves two finalists at the end of the competition, the Rising Star Indonesia leaves four finalists competing for the first prize. Indah Nevertari, Hanin Dhiya, Ghaitsa Kenang and Bluesmates band made it through to the grand final. This round is divided into three stages. At each stage, the finalists had to get the highest vote to beat other finalists. In the first stage, Bluesmates got the lowest voting and failed to get into the next stage. In the second half, the results of voting of the first and second appearance Ghaitsa accumulated and get the lowest number of votes which would automatically qualify for the next stage. In the final round, Indah and Hanin must compete to get the highest voting. By singing the song Animals from Maroon 5 in the first round, Man Down from Rihanna in the second half and the victory song, Come N Love Me at the end of the round, Indah Nevertari got the highest number of votes and became the champion of the first season of Rising Star Indonesia.[2][3]

Season 2 began airing on 12 December 2016 and this season, the competition was won by Andmesh Kamaleng after received 80 percent in the final round by singing the Making Love Out of Nothing at All from Air Supply.

Season 3 began airing on 17 December 2018 with new expert Yovie Widianto, and previous expert Judika, Ariel and Rossa. This season was won by Elvan Saragih.

In March 2021, after two years of hiatus, it was announced that Rising Star Indonesia would present a dangdut version that would be broadcast on MNCTV, RCTI's sister channel that is more focused to dangdut music.[4][5] The competition was won by Rezki Ramdani after received 85 percent in the final round by singing Cinta Berpayung Bulan from Ayu Soraya.[6]
