The company was founded in 1995 in Adelaide, South Australia, and is named after the Rising Sun Inn in the Adelaide suburb of Kensington. Tony Clark was a co-founder.^{[citation needed]}

In April 2021, FuseFX acquired Rising Sun Pictures.^{[citation needed]}

Tony Clark will continues to lead the studio and operate under the Rising Sun Pictures brand. Together, the combined companies have nearly 800 artists at eight locations around the world.^{[citation needed]}
