Rocky is a 2021 Indian Tamil-language action thriller film written and directed by debutant Arun Matheswaran.[1] Produced by RA Studios and distributed by Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan under the Rowdy Pictures banner, the film stars Vasanth Ravi, Bharathiraja and Raveena Ravi in the lead roles, and the music is composed by Darbuka Siva.[2] The film released on 23 December 2021,[3] received positive response from critics, praising the performances of the cast, direction and technical aspects.The movie successfully ran for 50 days at the box-office. Synopsis[]

A gangster who is released from prison goes in search of his sister only to find his violent past tagging along and threatening to derail his attempt to lead a normal life.

The soundtrack and score was composed by Darbuka Siva and the album featured three songs. The audio rights were acquired by Lahari Music.

Reception[]

Ashameera Aiyappan of Firstpost rated the film with 4/5 stating that, "With Rocky, Director Arun Matheswaran and DOP Shreyas Krishnaa manipulate the space on-screen with great finesse to communicate the emotional psyche of the characters."[4] Suganth of The Times of India gave a rating of 4 out on 5 and wrote, "Rocky is gloriously violent and deeply sentimental".[7] Manoj Kumar of Indian Express gave a rating of 3.5 out on 5 and wrote, "None before Arun Matheswaran had dared to graphically depict violence in such a way. The film's setup innately compromises the separation between good versus evil. It is a demon versus demon and we have to root for the lesser evil."[5] Janani of India Today rated the film with 3/5 stating that, "Rocky is a leaf out of the John Wick universe, but Indian style."[6]
