Rokos Capital Management LLP (RCM) is a British Alternative Investment Fund Manager (AIFM).[2] RCM is headquartered in London, with an economic research office in Washington DC, RCM has just under 200 employees.[3]

History[]

RCM was founded in 2015 by Chris Rokos, a co-founder of hedge fund Brevan Howard, where he made $4 billion for the firm's investors from 2002 to 2012.[4] One of the firm's first investors was the Blackstone Group, the American private equity giant.[5]

RCM manages the Rokos Global Macro Master Fund and takes risk in a range of macro asset classes in both developed and emerging markets, including interest rates, foreign exchange, equities, credit and commodities.[6] Chris Rokos, RCM's Chief Investment Officer, heads a core team of portfolio managers.[7]

Rokos Capital Management began trading in late 2015, marking its first full calendar year (2016) with a gain of approximately 20 per cent.[8] RCM was one of a number of hedge funds which had predicted the 2016 UK referendum vote on EU membership incorrectly. Despite the result, the firm gained more than 2.5 per cent in the days immediately after the vote.[9][10]

The strong performance in 2016 was followed by two lackluster years, reflecting a difficult trading period for macro hedge funds.[11] In 2018, a senior management team led by CEO Andrew Devenport was brought in, allowing Rokos to focus more fully on trading.[12]

In October 2019, it was reported that Rokos was himself taking responsibility for all individual allocations of capital.[4]

In 2019, Rokos Capital Management recorded a gain of 9.3%.[7][13]

In April 2020, Bloomberg reported that RCM posted its best monthly gain of 14% in March and has reopened the fund to new investors.[14][15]

In September 2020, in reaction to the murder of George Floyd, RCM announced that it intended to do more work to improve diversity within the firm and to support a number of educational initiatives seeking to create a more equitable environment. The firm provides financial support to a project in the London Borough of Haringey called "Chrysalis East",[16][17] aimed at maximising the educational outcomes of children, many of whom are from an ethnic minority background.[18][19] RCM is also working with the Amos Bursary which provides support from the age of 16 until the time of leaving university to young men and women of African and Caribbean descent from schools all over London.[20]
