Rostin Behnam is an American lawyer and government official who currently serves as Chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. On January 21, 2021, Behnam assumed the role of Acting Chairman following President Joe Biden's inauguration.[1] His term expired on April 13, 2021. He was renominated for a new term through June 19, 2026, and was confirmed on December 15, 2021.[2] He was also nominated by President Biden to be the permanent chairman. He was confirmed by senate the same day.[3] He is expected to increase regulation of the Wall Street derivatives market.[4] Prior to his service at the CFTC, Behnam was senior counsel to U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow. He has also practiced law in New York City and worked at the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General.[5][6]
