Cohen played the role of the cashier in Monk's Café in 101 of the show's 180 episodes, mainly as an extra. The character was eventually named "Ruthie Cohen" after her.

Cohen died of a heart attack at the age of 78 in Panorama City, California.[1] Her memorial service and burial were held at the Mount Sinai Memorial Park Cemetery in Hollywood Hills.
