Sabina Jeyasingham (born 17 November 1993), known professionally as Sabby Jey, is a New Zealand, Sri Lankan Tamil actress and model.[1][2] She is best known for her work in Tamil cinema and in 2018 debuted Karthikeyanum Kaanamal Pona Kadhileyumin. She has been active in the modeling industry since 2014, most prominently for work with  Maybelline New York in 2019.[3][4]

Early life[5][]

She was born in Auckland, New Zealand after her parents emigrated from Sri Lanka.[6][7][8] She has a Bachelor of Business majoring in International Business and Finance from Auckland University of Technology (AUT).[9][10] She is fluent in Tamil and English.[11]

Modeling career[]

Sabby Jey started modeling while at university in 2014.[12] She was a Miss Universe semi-finalist in 2015[13][14] and has worked as a model in a JV leggings commercial directed by renowned director J.D and Jerry and choreographed by Sridhar for ethnic wear in India in 2017.[15][16]In early 2019 she collaborated with Maybelline New York's extended range as a model.[17][18]

Acting career[]

Sabby Jey traveled to Chennai, India after studying and was managed by Nikkil Murugan who had previously worked with Rajinikanth and Kamal Hassan.[19][20]

Her first Kollywood feature film debut in 2018; "Kaadhal Nagaram" which was later renamed Karthikeyanum Kaanamal Pona Kadhaliyum alongside actor Pandi and Jangiri Madhumitha.[21][22] She was a lead in an unreleased Tamil film named "Street Fighter", which was directed by new director Moses.[23] She later signed with Gail Cowan Management.[24]

In the media[]

Sabby Jey is known for advocating against colourism in the industry and was part of the ‘Dark Is Beautiful’ campaign.[25]

She was also a brand ambassador and key opinion leader for Huawei in 2018.[26][27]

Personal life[]

Jey is a social media influencer and content creator with over 30 thousand followers.[28]

Entrepreneurship[]

She founded Sabby Jey Social Limited in May 2018 where she offers digital marketing services.[29][30]
