Saint Croix Falls Dam, also known as St. Croix Falls Dam, is a hydroelectric dam in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin.[1][2][3] The only dam on the St. Croix River, it is operated by Xcel Energy.[4] The Nevers Dam, 11 miles up river, was used by loggers before it was badly damaged by flooding in 1954 and demolished by the company that owned it the following year.[5]

A saying in the area is "We once had a mill by the dam site, but we now only have a dam by the mill site."[6]

History[]

It began service in 1905. The dam had record flows during April 2001.[7]E[8]uropean settlers moved into the area in the early 1800s. Many were attracted by the potential mechanical power of the falls, which had a natural fall of 55 feet.
