Saint Mary's Co-Ed Primary School (formerly known as Scoil Mhuire CBS) is a primary school located in the town of Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland. As of February 2013, the school is now co-educational, accepting boys and girls for the first time from Junior Infants up to 6th class starting in September 2013.[1]

History[]

The school opened in September 1959 and got an extension in 1970. The school has been renamed to "Saint Mary's Co-Ed Primary School" because it now accepts boys and girls so it is no longer a Christian Brothers School. The school had its 50-year jubilee in 2009.[2] The school is located beside Coláiste Mhuire, the oldest post-primary school in Mullingar.[citation needed]

Sports in school[]

The sports that are in the school are the following:-

  • Football Leagues (on the field located beside the school)
  • Swimming in the Mullingar Swimming Pool
  • Hurling (on the field located beside the school)
  • Sports Day (annually)
  • Gaelic football (on the field located beside the school)

Notable alumni[]

  • John Joe Nevin, professional Irish boxer who qualified in London 2012 Olympics
