He and his wife, Leslie Parrott,[1] are the founders of the Center for Relationship Development[2] at Seattle Pacific University where they taught courses out of the Marriage and Family Therapy and psychology departments.

Early life[]

Parrott is the son of A. Leslie Parrott Jr.,[3] former president of Olivet Nazarene University.[4] He obtained a bachelor's degree from Olivet Nazarene University in 1984, a master's degree in theology, then by a doctorate in clinical psychology from Fuller Theological Seminary.[5] Parrott is a fellow in medical psychology at the University of Washington School of Medicine.[5]

Career[]

In 1991, Parrott and his wife, Leslie Parrott,[6] also a psychologist, founded the Center for Relationship Development on the campus of Seattle Pacific University.[7][8]

Parrott taught psychology and relationship development classes with his wife from 1989[9] to 2016. In 2016, he became a professor at Northwest University[10] in Kirkland, Washington, and also founded the Center for Healthy Relationships and Life Coaching certificate program[11] at Olivet Nazarene University outside of Chicago. They are co-creators of the marriage matching function of eHarmony.[8] Their areas of expertise are marriage and intimacy.[12][13][14] Parrott emphasizes the need to not be overly dependent in a relationship,[15] thinking your spouse will fill every need and make you whole.[16][17][18]

Parrott has been part of the on-site support teams for worldwide disasters, including the Chernobyl disaster and the September 11, 2001 attacks, and has been called on to counsel Marines returning from Iraq.[19]

Parrott, along with his wife, founded an online tool called the SYMBIS Assessment; "SYMBIS" stands for "Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts". They also founded the Deep Love Assessment for couples, and the Yada Assessment for single adults.
