Scott Sartiano (born October 31, 1974) is an American restaurateur and nightlife impresario known for co-founding the critically acclaimed nightclubs 1 Oak, Up & Down, and restaurants Butter and The Darby.

Early life and education[]

He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Italian-American and Irish/Polish-American parents. He was raised in Columbia, South Carolina, later moving to New York City to pursue his undergraduate degree at Columbia University, where he played tennis at the collegiate level. He graduated from Columbia in 1997.[1]

Career[]

After an injury to his wrist ended his tennis career, Sartiano focused on business and investments in the night club industry. He joined forces with Richie Akiva and opened Butter Restaurant in New York City in 2002 and 1 Oak lounge in 2007.[2] Both of them became instant hits in the celebrity scene; 1 Oak has since then expanded to numerous cities across the world, including Dubai, Las Vegas, Tokyo, Los Angeles, the Maldives, and Mexico City.[3][4][5][6]

In 2010, he opened a supper club-themed restaurant named The Darby, with Alex Guarnaschelli as the executive chef.[7] In 2014, he opened Up & Down, which also became popular with celebrities.[8][9][10][11] He parted ways with his business partner in the same year.[12]

He then opened a chain of fast-casual restaurants, Broken Coconut, in 2017.[13] In 2020, he is planning to launch a private club, Zero Bond, at 670-674 Broadway.[2][14] Zero Bond was slated to open in April of 2020, but the outbreak of COVID-19 delayed that original opening date. The club had eventually opened in October of that year, with the site recently celebrating its first anniversary. Zero Bond Founder, Scott Sartiano described the experience to Fortune as such: “I wanted to create a London-style social club in New York that catered to the mixture of people-to creatives and actors as well as doctors, bankers, athletes, and more.” Sartiano is considered a veteran in this space. Sartiano’s credits include celebrity-laden hot spots such as Butter, 10AK, The Darby and Up & Down, and he has helped other private clubs put much of their focus on creative professionals or the wellness set. The main grill is overseen by Michelin Star chef Richard Farnabe and is supplemented by an omakase sushi bar and private dining rooms. The venue also displays a multimillion-dollar art collection, screening room and library. Both Scott Sartiano and Will Markis received the  help of world famous designers William and Studio Sofield, to create a setting that showcases serene furniture, exposed brick, and Baccarat chandeliers. While Zero Bond has all the workings of a conventional social club, owner Scott Sartiano is aiming for more of a community-based approach. Inviting young, affluent, athletes, artistic types, and other figures from the business and entertainment world.

Personal life[]

Sartiano was previously in a relationship with actresses Anne Hathaway, Ashley Olsen, and Jamie-Lynn Sigler.[15][16][17][18] He married Wihelmina model Allie Rizzo on October 25, 2014.[19][20]
