Sean Hoy, also spelled Seán Hoy (born 1964) is an Irish diplomat. He is the current Ambassador of Ireland to Brazil since 1 December 2018.[1]

Education[]

Hoy, a native of County Fermanagh, attended St Michael's College, Enniskillen and Queen's University Belfast (QUB), graduating with Bachelor of Agriculture degree. He spent the next two years in Sudan with the aid agency Concern. He then earned a master's degree in Deveplopment Planning from the University of East Anglia and returned to Sudan for a further two years.[1]

Diplomatic career[]

Hoy joined the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1990. For the next 24 years he was a development adviser to the Irish government aid programme. This work included postings to Mozambique, Uganda and Vietnam.

In 2014 he was appointed ambassador to Nigeria and in 2018 to Brazil.[2]
