Semyon Davidovich Aranovich (Ukrainian: Семён Аранович, 23 July 1934, Derazhnya, Ukraine, Soviet Union – 8 September 1996, Hamburg, Germany) was a Soviet and Russian film director.[1]

His works included the documentaries (1990) and (1989) (about the poet) as well as features like . His 1994 film The Year of the Dog won the Silver Bear for an outstanding artistic contribution at the 44th Berlin International Film Festival.[2]

He also directed the well-known television miniseries Rafferty in 1980 and Confrontation in 1985.

Andrei Kravchuk has made a documentary about him, Semyon Aranovich: Poslednii Kadr (Semyon Aranovich: The Final Shot).
