Shimelis Bekele (Amharic: ሽመልስ በቀለ, born 2 January 1990) is an Ethiopian national footballer who plays as a midfielder.[1] He currently plays for Egyptian Premier League club Misr Lel-Makkasa. He was also selected to play for the Ethiopian national football team in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.[2][3]

Career[]

The Saint George attacking midfielder signed from Awassa in the summer of 2011. He separated himself as one of talented footballers at a young age when he was playing for one of the two Awassa's under 15 youth teams. His body is built for long dazzling runs past opposition players. Shimelis appeared with Ethiopia in 2012 AFCON Qualifying, and emerged as one of the best players in Iffy Onuora's team which was eliminated from the final stages of the tournament. 2 December 2010, was one of the stand-out performances of his career, scoring two fine goals as Ethiopia beat Kenya 2–1 at Cecafa Challenge Cup in Tanzania. This was the day when Shimelis began to be recognized as one of the most promising talents in Ethiopian football. He can play wide or behind a striker.[citation needed]
