Shotgun Wedding is an upcoming American romantic comedy action film directed by Jason Moore from a screenplay by Mark Hammer and Liz Meriwether. The film stars Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel.

It is scheduled to be released on June 29, 2022, by Lionsgate.

Premise[]

Darcy and Tom get their lovable but very opinionated families for the ultimate destination wedding just as the couple get cold feet. But suddenly everyone's lives are in danger when the entire party is taken hostage. The couple must work together to save their loved ones — if they don't end up killing each other first.[1]

Production[]

Development[]

The film was first announced on January 29, 2019, with Ryan Reynolds attached to star, Pitch Perfect's Jason Moore directing and Mark Hammer writing the screenplay alongside Liz Meriwether. Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman of Mandeville Films would produce the film alongside Reynolds through his production company Maximum Effort.[2] Lopez, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, and Benny Medina joined as producers of the film through Nuyorican Productions in October 2020.

Casting[]

On October 27, 2020, Jennifer Lopez was cast as the female lead. Armie Hammer was also cast, replacing Reynolds,[3] before dropping out in January 2021 in the wake of abuse allegations against him.[4] Upon the announcement of Hammer's exit, he said in a statement:

I'm not responding to these bullshit claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for 4 months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic. Lionsgate is supporting me in this and I'm grateful to them for that.[4]

On January 19, 2021, Josh Duhamel entered early negotiations to replace Hammer, with his casting confirmed the following month. Sônia Braga and Jennifer Coolidge were also cast in starring roles.[1] On February 16, 2021, Lenny Kravitz, Cheech Marin, D'Arcy Carden, Selena Tan, Desmin Borges, and Alex Mallari Jr. were cast.[5] On May 7, 2021, Callie Hernandez and Steve Coulter joined the cast of the film.[6]

Filming[]

Filming was originally planned to commence in the summer of 2019,[2] but was later rescheduled to February 22, 2021, with shooting taking place in Boston and the Dominican Republic.[7] Lopez announced on Instagram that principal photography had officially wrapped on April 22, 2021.[8]

Release[]

The film is scheduled to be released theatrically on June 29, 2022.[9]
