Bekizwe Simon Nkosi (born 19 June 1964) is a co-chairperson of the . He was elected to the National Assembly of South Africa in 2019 as a member of the African National Congress. Nkosi was a member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature between 1997 and 2012 and served as the deputy president of the African National Congress Youth League from 1994 to 1996. Nkosi is an attorney by profession.
Education[]
Nkosi earned a B.Proc degree as well as a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of South Africa. He read for a Master of Laws (LLM) at the University of Pretoria. He completed an Executive Diploma Programme at the School of Business Leadership at UNISA. Nkosi is currently busy with a CIS Professional Post-Graduate Qualification at the Chartered Secretaries Southern Africa.[1]
Political career[]
Nkosi served as the deputy president of the African National Congress Youth League, the youth wing of the African National Congress, from 1994 to 1996. He was a member of the ANC provincial executive committee (PEC) in Gauteng from 1997 to 2000. In 2000, he was elected as a regional chairperson of the ANC. Nkosi also served as an ANC regional secretary.[1]
Nkosi served in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature as an ANC representative from 1997 to 2012.[1]
Parliamentary career[]
Nkosi stood as an ANC parliamentary candidate on the national list in the 2019 general elections,[2] and was elected to the National Assembly and sworn in on 22 May 2019.[3]
Nkosi was named to the Portfolio Committee on International Relations and Cooperation on 27 June 2019.[4] On 11 September 2019, Nkosi was elected as a co-chairperson of the Joint Committee on Ethics and Members' Interests alongside National Council of Provinces Permanent Delegate .[5]
In April 2021, he became a member of the Committee for Section 194 Enquiry. The committee will determine Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane's fitness to hold office.[6]
