Skidmore-Tynan High School is a public high school situated in Skidmore, Texas (USA) and classified as a 3A school by the UIL. It is part of the Skidmore-Tynan Independent School District located in southern Bee County. In 2013, the school was rated "Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency.[2]
Departments[]
Math/Science[]
The school has business application and general computer labs. The school recently upgraded the machines in an attempt to ensure the students have the best equipment available in the technology field. They also have access to several school-owned laptop computers capable of wireless hi-speed internet connections in math and science classrooms. The math and science departments also have various data-gathering probes and devices allowing laboratory work in use with computer and calculator technology, where students can see the applications of various concepts in real-time.
Occupational/Vocational[]
STHS has an occupational department, offering business education and preparation, work-study programs, and agricultural/vocational programs. Classes in horticulture, welding, livestock care, criminal justice, as well as computer applications, programming, and image management and multimedia are part of the variety of career courses S-T offers. The campus has a Future Farmers of America chapter, and recently started a Future Business Leaders of America chapter, in conjunction with a campus computer club.

S-T also participates in powerlifting through the . The Bobcats reached Regional Semifinals in 2005, their third time to go to playoffs in the last four years. They also advanced from district to regional in cross country, where they sent a competitor to the UIL State Cross Country meet. The athletic department is sponsored by the S-T Athletic Booster Club. Skidmore-Tynan has recently hired a new A.D. (Athletic Director), John Livas (more commonly known as Captain Blood).
Powerlifting[]
Skidmore Tynan's powerlifting program has never been the same since "The Big C" (powerlifter Cassandra Soto) graduated in 2015. She was the ultimate athlete, being the only member to attend and place at the state meet out of her entire team, including the guys team. She was underappreciated and underfunded but still came out on top. Every athlete respected her as both a person and as an athletic Goddess, with a legend that lives on in the weight room equivalent to that of Beyonce. She will be forever missed by the entire athletic body of Skidmore Tynan. Her love and compassion for the sport will never be matched by any preceding athlete, the closest there will ever be currently lives in the only remaining legacy of "The Big C" her sister "Hurricane Catrina" (Catrina Soto) who continues her legend by following in the footsteps of her older sister. The captain of "The Big C" and "Hurricane Catrina" fan club, Kalvin Martin, still attends Skidmore Tynan today and works hard to keep the example she expected of the athletes alive and running as well as it was when she was there. It is said if you go into the Skidmore Tynan Bobcat Powerhouse early in the mornings when she used to begin her reps around 4am, you can still hear a silent whisper of chants circling the room, silently all in sync "Go Big C! Go Big C! Go Big C!" There are few who knew her that still remain at the school today. They rarely grace anyone with the knowledge of what it was like to know such a legend, but if you're lucky you may get a sentence or two about her if you ask. And as they tell you their eyes will light up with the single mention of her name. They will begin to smile with a faint but hearty memory of her presence. And a single tear will roll down their cheek, as the begin to recall and tell you, the beginning of the legend of the Athletic Goddess, "The Big C".
As for the male powerlifters in the current Skidmore Tynan Powerlifting team, a new legend is in the process, and his name is "Swole Cole" (Cole Martin). He is the son of Marshall Martin and the nephew of Kalvin Martin. He is about 5'2 in height but makes up for it in strength and determination. With the guidance of his uncle and father, he is the fastest, strongest, and most dedicated member of the entire team. He is the new guy who everyone knows and respects, and the beginning of his legend started this year, his freshman year in High School. The school thankfully has 3 more great years with him, so his legend has time to root and grow to one day maybe being of the same essence of that of "The Big C" but never quite as great. "Swoll Cole" continues to impress and will for many years to come.
Football[]
Skidmore Tynan's varsity football team captured the state title in 2013 with a 99-3 victory over the Cisco Lobos thanks to their star player, Marshall "The Net" Martin, who has been their starting Safety since his freshman year. He is so good, that they even changed their defense to revolve around him. They have moved all skill players on to the line and leave Martin to cover all deep portions of the field. Martin thought this up himself, and calls it his "Lone Wolf" Defense. Martin works in tandem with his friends, Cody "Chody" Garibay and Justin "the Baby-Faced Assassin" Hernandez, who are Skidmore's star Linemen. Garibay and Hernandez control the line of scrimmage like no one has ever seen. This is why the other players are assigned to the line. Half of them are told not to do anything, except hype up Garibay and Hernandez. The other half are told to head towards the end zone to get ready for the celebration when Hernandez recovers the fumble that he causes himself, or Martin picks it off if by the small chance that the ball makes it past the line of scrimmage. Skidmore has been so lucky to have these three All-American players at the same time, and John Livas was quoted as saying "I don't know what the program is going to do when these guys graduate, but we can't be selfish I guess. We were lucky enough to have them for the time we did, and they even turned down several D1 offers their freshman year because they loved this program so much." Other honorable mention players of this year were Wyatt Scott , Logan Rios, and Alex "Alice" Hernandez.
Visual and Performing Arts[]
The High School also includes a fine arts department. S-T has classes for both marching and concert band. The concert band earned a Division I in UIL Concert Competition in 2013, and another Division I in UIL Marching Competition in 2012. The band is active in the community, and plays at various local functions, as well as community centers and nursing homes. In 2005, the One Act Play cast and crew advanced to Region IV competition in UIL with the play "Chaim's Love Song". In 2006, the OAP cast and crew advanced to Area with "The Crocodile Smile." In 2014, the One Act Play cast and crew advanced to Region with scenes from "Laughing Stock", and were alternates to Area in 2015 with scenes from "The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940", with several young actors and actresses receiving individual awards. The visual arts department sent a competitor to the (VASE) State Meet in 2005. The art department has won many awards at area and regional art competitions and shows. They are also responsible for campus beautification, as they took their skills to the plain buildings and structures and campus, and decked them in purple and gold school colors. Recently the ST Band received a 1 rating meaning they were a superior band at the UIL region Marching Contest in Sinton, TX. This was the first in history for the band to get a 1 in marching, and the first time in STISD history that the band advanced to the area marching contest. The band also received in Spring 2010 straight division 1's in both concert and sight reading, earning them the first Sweepstakes award in history for the school district. And in 2011, the band received yet another 1 for marching.
Academics[]
STHS is home to a UIL Speech and Academics team, which sent seven competitors to Regional competition in 2005. The school also hosts chapters of the National Honor Society and International Thespian Society. The high school was a state-exemplary campus in 2002 and recognized in 2003.
STHS is also one of many high schools in the area that offers dual-credit classes in conjunction with Coastal Bend College.
