Raymond Bernard "Snooks" Dowd (December 20, 1897 – April 4, 1962) was a college football star for Lehigh University and a Major League Baseball infielder for the Detroit Tigers (1919), Philadelphia Athletics (1919), and Brooklyn Robins (1926). Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, Snooks attended Lehigh University and became famous for his performance in "The Rivalry" between Lehigh and Lafayette College. In 1918, Snooks, playing halfback for Lehigh, completed a 115-yard touchdown run. According to the story, Dowd ran the wrong way, circled his own goalposts, and went the right way 100 yards to score. See The Rivalry. (See also Lehigh Press Guide, p. 6)[1] Snooks played in 16 Major League games and had a career batting average of .115 with 4 runs, 3 hits, and 6 RBIs.

Snooks died in 1962 at age 64 in Northampton, Massachusetts.
