Sofie Stange Cappelen (born February 2, 1982) is a Norwegian-born actress.

Biography[]

The daughter of writer Anders Cappelen and granddaughter of playwright Peder Wright Cappelen, Sofie Cappelen is a part of the Publisher branch of the Cappelen family. She first appeared on screen at the age of six in the Norwegian Christmas show . She was a member of the Jorunn Kirkenær Children Ballet, and was cast as a dancer and actor in several TV shows growing up. Aged 11, she made her stage debut at the National Theatre of Norway (Nationaltheateret) as one of the child actors in Sverre Brandt's Journey to the Christmas Star (Norwegian: Reisen til Julestjernen).

At 12 she landed her first lead in a feature film, Goodbye 13! (Aldri mer 13!) directed by . Cappelen received positive reviews for her interpretation of Rikke Eriksen, and the movie won several international prizes in 1996, including the Lucas in Germany, the European Youth Film Festival in Flanders in Belgium, and the International Film Festival for Children and Youth in the Czech Republic. She was also one of the youth actors on NRK's cult show Middle of the Egg ().

At 16 she became the youngest cast member of Norway's first daily prime-time series Hotel Cæsar, playing the part of Victoria Lunde. In 2003 she played Inga, the female lead in the Israeli comedy , which won at the Haifa International Film Festival in 2003. She studied method acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York, and subsequently began studying to become a psychologist at the University of Oslo.
