Soumitra Bannerjee (1954—8 January 2000) was an Indian actor who worked mainly in Bengali cinema.[1] Some of his notable films are Amar Prem, Troyee, Guru Dakshina, IndrajIt, Bhoy, and Badnam.[2] He often played villainous role in Bengali films.
Biography[]
Soumitra Bannerjee began his career at the age of eight in Subha O Debatar Grass in 1964 and eventually appeared in about 150 films. In 1982 he was cast in the lead role in the movie Troyee opposite to Debashree Roy and Mithun Chakraborty. After the movie, he received many offers from directors. But he was cast in negative roles in many movies for his appearance. He had worked many successful films as a negative character.
Soumitra Banerjee died on 8 January 2000.[3] His last film was Khelaghar.[4] Sarod maestro, music director and writer Abanindra Maitra was his nearest friend,they grew up together since childhood, he gave music in many of his films like Debotar Grash, Jeeban Sangra and others. Abanindra had said Soumitra was a highly talented actor and a singer.He could remember a song even listening once, He could have done some thing commendable in the film industry if he had survived.
