Sridhara (surname)

Sridhara is an Indian initial (not to be mistaken with Sridhar or Sridharan). They originate from the port town of Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh or Guntur districtof Andhra Pradesh. They have been known to have possessed a lot of material wealth. Hence, they got the name Sridhara, Sri-Lakshmi (Hindu Goddess of Wealth) and Dhara - to possess; In other words, someone who possesses wealth i.e. Vishnu (Preserver), as he is married to Lakshmi. They belong to Vaidiki Velanadu sub-caste of the Telugu Brahmin community."Shridhar" surname is Brahmin, which belongs to the Sanadhya Brahmin. Even in Madhya Pradesh, there are Brahmins with the surname "Sridhar." Most of the Sridhara families are from coastal Andhra pradesh area and also some of them are from Polasteshwera Puram (Polasa) of Karimnagar district.
