Early life[]

Stephen was born to John and Mary Gollogly of Scotstown, Monaghan. The eldest of 5 siblings, Gollogly was pushed into Gaelic sports at a young age. Stephen was made captain of Our Lady's secondary School, Castleblaney Senior Gaelic team when he was only in 2nd Year, Having played most of the previous seasons games on the bench and coming on to great success during the second half of the county final against St. Francis Secondary, Co. Down during the 2001 Ulster Schools senior final. Impressing all, well into his final year of school, Stephen was recommended by his principal, to Monaghan head coach Paschal Martin who selected Gollogly for his 2006 squad. Born with a skull which was approximately 2 cm thicker than the average human skull, called Megamind by his classmates, his coaches saw this as an opportunity. Nicknamed 'Battering Ram' by Martin, he was often used as an offensive weapon to target skilled opposition players. Mark McHugh would become Gollogly's final victim, In 2013, sent on against Donegal, Gollogly clattered into McHugh, McHugh suffered hearing loss and loss of concsciousness and must now walk aided by a cane for the rest of his life. The GAA passed a rule banning the use of such tactics following the incident.

Later life[]

Following his departure from the Monaghan squad in 2014, Stephen was hired as a Woodwork teacher, where he remains today.
