Steven Wesley Gilland is a United States Army major general who serves as the deputy commanding general of III Corps since July 2021. He was previously commanding general of the 2nd Infantry Division from 2019 to 2021.[2] He has a wife and three children.[citation needed]

Gilland graduated from Sherrard High School in 1986. He has a master's degree in military operational art and science from the Air Force Command and Staff College.
Career[]
Gilland was commissioned from West Point in 1990. In 2012, Gilland took command of the 1st "Ironhorse" Brigade Combat Team.[3] Gilland was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General in June of 2015. He previously had participated in numerous deployments included to the Middle East, Africa and Afghanistan.[4] He later became the commanding officer of the 2nd Infantry Division (United States).[citation needed][when?] Around January 2021, the Army Chief of Staff's Office announced that Gilland would become the deputy commander of the III Corps at Fort Hood.[5]
