The Stoneygate Conservation Area Society (SCAS) is a voluntary organisation based in Stoneygate, Leicester, England. The Society was created in 1978 and exists to raise awareness of the Stoneygate Conservation Area, highlight its history and heritage and publicize proposed changes that may affect it in future. The conservation area is covered by an Article 4 Direction (planning consent is required for changes to front windows, doors and boundaries) and many of its trees are covered by Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs). We also offer informal advice to residents on what this means for them. ^[1]

The Society has a formal constitution, a chair elected by committee and a committee (currently six) elected by the membership. Membership (currently steady at around 210 households) is open to families, couples and individuals at the same rate.

The Society publishes a newsletter three times a year, has its own website from which back issues of the newsletter may be downloaded and is now active on social media, recently attracting its 1,000th Twitter follower. It actively co-operates with other like-minded organisations such as the Leicester Civic Society, the Knighton Neighbourhood Forum, the Friends of Clarendon Park and the Leicester branch of the Victorian Society and is a member of the Leicester Heritage Partnership, formed in June 2011 by new City Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby to `promote the preservation, use and interpretation of the city's historic built environment' and `engage the enthusiasm and expertise' of local groups who have an active interest in Leicester's history and heritage buildings.

The Society's Annual General Meeting (usually held locally in May and advertised in advance on the website) provides a regular opportunity for all members to chat with the committee over tea and biscuits and to review the previous year's achievements. Formal proceedings are usually followed by talks or presentations by visiting speakers on conservation- or heritage-related topics. The AGM is an open meeting and all are welcome.
