Strawberry Mansion[2] is an American surrealist science fiction adventure romantic comedy film directed and written by Albert Birney and Kentucker Audley. It stars Penny Fuller, Kentucker Audley, Grace Glowicki, Reed Birney, Linas Phillips and Constance Shulman.[3]

Premise[]

In a dystopian future where dreams are taxed and invaded by advertisers, government agent James Preble travels to the home of an Arabella Isadora, an eccentric aging artist, to audit her dreams. As he explores her subconscious, stored on a vast library of VHS tapes, he finds himself falling in love.

The film premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival on January 29, 2021 in the Next section.[1][4] On June 21, 2021, Music Box Films acquired its US distribution rights and Alief acquired its international distribution rights.[5]

Critical response[]

The review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes surveyed 33 critics' reviews and assessed 29 as positive and 4 as negative, for a 88% rating, with an average rating of 7.2 out of 10. The critics consensus reads "Strawberry Mansion's sci-fi premise provides cover for a film whose dream logic and surreal visuals are underscored by quietly poignant themes."[6]
