Strength in Numbers is the third and final studio album from Leeds-based indie rock band The Music. It was released on 16 June 2008 by Polydor Records.

It comes in two formats, a regular CD (in a super jewel case) and a deluxe digipak Edition. The limited edition features two bonus tracks, "The Price" and "The Rain", but does not feature the hidden track "No Danger".

A website for the album was launched in April 2008.[8] It features a flash teaser video from video producer Chris Boyd. The video was also released on the band's YouTube channel.[9]

The site now features the option to sign up for extra content, with a 30-second live video of one of the songs from the new album, as well as a discussion forum and other minor features.

"Strength In Numbers" was released as a 3-format single on 9 June 2008.

"The Spike" was the second single released from the album,[10] with "Drugs" being released as a special limited edition third single sold exclusively through the band's official website.

Critical reception[]

Strength in Numbers was met with "mixed or average" reviews from critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a weighted average rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream publications, this release received an average score of 54 based on 10 reviews.[1]

In a review for AllMusic, critic reviewer Andrew Leahey wrote: "Strength in Numbers turns out to be a nice comeback, particularly during the tracks that find that sweet spot between bubbling electronics and stadium Brit-rock."[2] Dom Gourlay of Drowned in Sound explained: "Strength In Numbers, whilst not exactly redefining the zeitgeist, is a lot better than anyone could have expected."[3] At Pitchfork, Ian Cohen said: "Strength in Numbers is far from unlistenable but when the chorus of the title track hits with the subtlety of a latter-day Nas album title, it's damn refreshing to hear a group bound for glory as shamelessly as the Music."[7]
