Stupid Stupid Stupid is the second album by British band Black Grape.[10][11] It was released in 1997.[12] The original UK CD release of the album had hollow plastic "googly eyes" glued to the front of the CD cover. Subsequent editions were released in a standard case.
Production[]
The album was mixed at Real World Studios, owned by Peter Gabriel.[12]
Music[]
Stupid Stupid Stupid is often considered to be similar to the band's debut album, but without that album's "infectious beats, mammoth hooks and surreal humour,"[13] and instead displaying a heavier soul influence, with "Lonely" being a cover version of the Frederick Knight song.[13] Brent DiCrescenzo of Pitchfork Media described the music as "Manchester dance, funk, pop and rock. Loud, obnoxious, and perfect for the setting."[14]
Entertainment Weekly called the album "a lackadaisical effort that verges on dullness."[6] NME called it "a calculatedly offensive gesture almost beautiful in the perfection of its simplicity."[2] The Independent called Stupid Stupid Stupid "more dumbed-down than drugged-up."[15]
