Sumitra Mukherjee (30 March 1949 – 21 May 2003)[1] was an Indian Bengali actress who was recognized for her work in Bengali cinema.[2] Her on-screen pairings with actors such as Ranjit Mallick, Uttam Kumar, Soumitra Chatterjee, Santu Mukhopadhyay and Dipankar Dey were popular.
Early life[]
Born in 30 March 1949, Sumitra Mukherjee was also known as Hasi (smile). She was famous for her beautiful smiling face.[3]
Struggling days[]
After getting a break in the film " Ajker Nayak " directed by Dinen Gupta in 1972 With Kali Bannerjee, Samit Bhanja, Kalyan Chatterjee, Shekhar Chatterjee. She portrayed a number of memorable roles in the 1970s. It seems that she select a series of B-grades, C-grades Bengali movies and her choice were not perfect for her acting skill.[4]
Career[]
In her 32 years acting career she acted in about 500 films portraying the role of a typical Bengali lady, was acclaimed by viewers for her natural acting skill.[5]
Personal life[]
Her married life was not a happy one. 2003 and is survived by 2 sons.
Death[]
She died at an early age of 54 on 21 May 2003.[6]
