Supertubos (Portuguese for Supertubes) is a wave and beach located in Peniche, Portugal. The break offers world-class surfing conditions with its curvy waves and hollow powerful tubes, and is the site of the MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal from the World Surf League Men's and Women's Championship Tour event.[1][2]

The wave did not come into mainstream international spotlight until the Rip Curl Pro Search Event in 2009. It has been qualified as having 'Totally Epic'[3] quality as a wave. It's open swell window to the powerful storms that rage through the North Atlantic, protection from the northerly winds that often plague the coast, and a unique bathymetry all come together to make Supertubos one of the best beachbreaks in the world.[4]

Major surfing competitions[]

The beach hosts every year the MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal, a professional surfing competition, from the World Surf League Men's and Women's Championship Tour.[5]On the tour calendar, this is one out of two European competitions and the tenth out of eleven competitions overall.

At national level, the beach hosts every year the "Bom Petisco Peniche Pro" from the Liga MEO Surf Men's and Women's Championship Tour, the last competition of the national championship calendar.[6]
