Suryavamsam (transl. Lineage of the Sun god) is a 2020 Indian Tamil-language soap opera on Zee Tamil starring Poornima Bhagyaraj, Nikitha Rajesh and Aashish Chakravarthi in the lead roles.^[1] It premiered on 21 September 2020 and aired Monday to Saturday.It ended on 21 August 2021. It is an official remake of Zee Telugu series America Ammayi.^[2][3]

Plot[]

The story about Annapoorani (Annammal), who disowns her daughter Kalyani and ostracizes her from the family for marrying against her consent. After 25 years, Kalyani's daughter Samantha tries to reunite her mother in the family.

Over the years, Kalyani falls ill and wishes to reunite with her family. So, Samantha takes it upon herself to bring the family together. She enters her grandparents' house and before convincing them to accept their daughter, she falls in love with her maternal uncle's son, Surya. One day, Shanmugham steals the diamonds which came to Exhibition to Suryavamsam mall as per Narayanan's idea to settle the loan that Raji got from Annammal. When Annammal came to know that Shanmugham stole, She Lashes out at Shanmugham but Raji interferes and upsets Annammal so She thought to leave the house and went to a Ashram. Narayanan took Nirmala Devi's Phone Number from Jayanthi and called her and told her to come to India with Samanya So they came to India. When Samantha and Surya got engaged, the real Samanya Came to the Suryavamsam Family and told Jayanthi that Samantha is a culprit who came with her name. Jayanthi started to hate Samantha and Raji started liking her and thought of Marrying Samantha to her son, Chandhru as Samantha helped Padmavathi in her marriage and made Chandhru a responsible guy. Samantha promised Jayanthi that She will not meet Surya or talk to him as Jayanthi got ill. After few days, A Bad Intention Man, Abhishek who is nearby to Suryavamsam house started acting like loving Leelavathi. Leelavathi also believed, Samanya thought that she can use Abhishek to separate the family. Abhishek pinches Samantha's Hips and steals her Credit Card and Purchases for Leelavathi by it, the next day, Abhishek Enters Suryavamsam house secretly to talk with Leelavathi. Leela steals Surya's laptop as Abhishek asks. Abhishek hacked the laptop and transferred all the money from Suryavamsam family's account without evidence, But due to Samantha's changing of password in SG Enterprises company in which she works. Clients of Suryavamsam family's companies, file a complaint against the family due to check bounce. Police in respect of the family first investigates them in their house. Nirmala devi who want all the properties of Suryavamsam family thought that all property stolen away, then why she needs to marry her daughter to Surya. So She called Samanya to America but she refused. So Nirmala devi compels her, but Samanya blackmails Surya by keeping knife in her neck, Surya agrees to marry Samanya which leaves Samantha heart-Broken, she enters Surya's room to get the engagement photos from him but hides in the cupboard on seeing Samanya coming to Surya's room. Surya returns the photos but Surya and Samantha do a playful fight and Surya cleverly thought Samanya will not leave the room and wait Outside because she has a doubt on Samantha that she may come to Surya's room. Abhishek calls Leela but she hesitates and says Samanya to attend the call but Abhishek's phone got switched off, Samantha irritates Surya and leave his room. The next day Samantha and Chandru enter Surya's room. Samantha says Chandru to justify her problem with Surya. She return all the things given by Surya, then she denies her love with Surya and leaves the room. Surya is heart-broken but Chandru is happy. Abhishek calls Leela again and she talks with him which is heard my Samantha. Samanya sees Samantha hearing leela and calls Jayanthi and creates a conflict between Jayanthi and Samantha. She provocates Jayanthi by speaking ill on Samantha. Jayanthi hurts Samantha by saying her fraud and she pushes her out of the house but Raji came and stopped Jayanthi by scolding her. Samantha went inside the house and Chandru visits Samantha and consoles her but she says that she is not worrying by that incident and she is worrying about Leela. She gives Clue to Chandru to find about the person who talked with Leela and Chandru finds that is Abhishek, Chandru says Samantha to convey this to Surya. She takes the pictures return by Surya to say about Abhishek. Surya tells Samantha to don't worry about leela and not make her to convey about Abhishek, She gives the engagement photos to Surya and leaves the room. The next day, Chandru and Surya recalls their first meeting with Samantha. Chandru thinks Raji's statement of Samantha when she entered the house. Surya gets worried of all untoward incidents. Chandru thinks of Samantha. Surya tells Chandru about Samantha's good nature. Chandru gets irked when Surya discusses about Samantha's Birthday celebration. Samanya is annoyed when Samantha speaks about Surya's favourite things. Chandru follows leela and Samanya and keep watching on them and conclude there is a problem. Samanya intervenes Jayanthi when she questions leela for skipping online classes for 1 month. Jayanthi decides to celebrate when Surya decides to marry Samanya. Raji slaps Jayanthi in return when she slaps Samantha for dropping the cake by an accidentally slip by Surya's legs. Samanya reveals a truth to Nirmala Devi. Later Samanya was invited by Abhishek to a hotel where she cleverly took his laptop and caught him to police and he is arrested. Then Surya throws away the family photo because the marker trace on Kalyani's face in the photo is removed. Samantha got emotional and she fell dizzy in the car and Surya carries Samantha and they go to Hospital and it was rainy So Samantha felt cold and Surya rub her hand to bring back her to Normal temperature. Surya scolds Samantha when she said about Samanya. Padmavathi berates Samantha when the latter told Srinivas that she is pregnant but Padma resides in Suryavamsam house, but she isn't pregnant. A Goon of Abhi is blackmailing leela to bring Abhi's laptop from Samanya. But Narayanan slolen it and a stranger stole from him and thus made leela to jump from the terrace but Samantha stopped her and learned everything and decide to help her when the goon asked her to meet him. Padma hears everything and she apologise to Samantha and call Srinivas to accompany Samantha. The goons take Samantha to their custody when they come to know that Laptop is not there. Srinivas beats them and release Samantha and they both know who is behind them and Why there blackmailing leela. Samanya kidnaps Samantha and she uses a gas that makes Samantha dizzy. Then Samanya makes fake wounds on her face and make Surya to believe that Samantha kidnapped her. Her goons show him a picture that Samantha slapping Samanya. He took her home and Jayanthi fakes her chest pain and make Surya to tie "Tali" on Samanya's neck. Surya hesitates but when Nirmala devi speaks like Annammmal that to marry her. When Surya is going to tie tali, Samantha interferes but Samanya pushes her out of the house when Kalyani reaches the house.

Production[]

Launching[]

The production decided to launch this family melodrama series before March 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the production and filming of the television series were stalled. After the serial shootings were permitted in India, the series resumed and Zee Tamil decided to launch this series. The first promo was released on YouTube by Zee Tamil on 2 September 2020.^[5]

Casting[]

Actress Poornima Bhagyaraj, was selected to play the head of family, with Arundathi series fame Nikitha Rajesh selected for the female lead and a newcomer Aashish Chakravarthi, winner of Mr. Chennai International 2019 selected to play a male lead. While Actor Rajesh, Ramachandran, Anitha Venkat, Caroline and other plays supporting roles.^[6]

Filming[]

The first train sequence of this series was shot in Ramoji film city, Hyderabad.

Suryavamsam cast and crew joined Maha Sangamam with "Neethane Enthan Ponvasantham" from 25 January to 26 February 2021.^[7]

Title[]

The title was taken from 1997 Tamil feature movie Suryavamsam. The meaning of the title is Lineage of the Sun god.
