Swan Song is a 2021 American science fiction drama film written and directed by Benjamin Cleary and produced by Mahershala Ali, Rebecca Bourke and Jonathan King. Set in the near future, Ali portrays a husband and father who is diagnosed with terminal illness but is given a new solution: to replace himself with a clone.
The film also stars Naomie Harris, Awkwafina, Glenn Close and Adam Beach. It was released by and on Apple TV+ on December 17, 2021.
Plot[]
When a loving husband and father Cameron Turner is diagnosed with a terminal illness, he is presented with the option of sparing his family grief by having him replaced with a clone. Turner is torn about whether to discuss the option with his wife.

Production[]
In February 2020, Apple TV+ announced it had acquired the rights to the film, to be written and directed by Benjamin Cleary and star Mahershala Ali.[1] In September, Naomie Harris joined the cast,[2] and Awkwafina and Glenn Close signed on in November.[3][4] Adam Beach announced he was added to the cast in December.[5]
Principal photography began on November 9, 2020 in Vancouver, Canada[6][7] and concluded on February 6, 2021.[8] The film was released on December 17, 2021.[9]
Reception[]
On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 80% of 94 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 6.6/10. The website's consensus reads, "Swan Song occasionally strays on the wrong side of maudlin, but Mahershala Ali's work in dual roles lends this sci-fi drama genuine heart."[10] On Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score of 66 out of 100, based on 27 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[11]
