The men's 200 metre backstroke competition of the swimming events at the 1987 Pan American Games took place on 11 August at the Indiana University Natatorium.[1] The last Pan American Games champion was Rick Carey of US.[2][3][4][5][6][7]

This race consisted of four lengths of the pool, all in backstroke.[8]
