Turnverein Bittenfeld 1898 e. V. or TV Bittenfeld is a handball club from Waiblingen, town of Bittenfeld, Germany. This club played in 2nd division German handball league, Handball-Bundesliga, from the 2006/07 season until 2014/15. After earning third place overall the 2014/15 season, the team was promoted to the 1st division German League and changed its name to TVB 1898 Stuttgart.[1] The team's home games take place in Scharrena Stuttgart. Due to restricted capacity of its home arena, some of the games are held in the nearby Porsche-Arena.
History[]
The team played five seasons in the 2nd South Ligue between 2006 and 2011. At the end of the season 2010/2011 TV Bittenfeld finished as fourth. This allowed the team to play in the newly founded 2nd Handball National League (German: Bundesliga). The head coach was Jürgen Schweikardt and supported by assistant coach Heiko Burmeister. The club's biggest success came in the 2014/15 season when TV Bittenfeld took third in the final standings, which entitled the transfer to the first (or main) German League. In the 2015/16 season, the team modified its name to TVB 1898 Stuttgart.[2]
The second team of TV Bittenfeld played until the season 2010/2011 in so-called Land League. The team won the first place there and now plays in the Württemberg League. The team is trained by Michael Rill and Peter Seiz.
