Tampa is known for its wealth in developing baseball talent, with one of the highest numbers of MLB players per capita in the country. Now, through the generous support of the community, the Ybor City Museum Society[2] opened the much-anticipated Tampa Baseball Museum at the Al Lopez House on September 25, 2021, in Ybor City, Florida. Located in the rehabilitated childhood home of Al López,[3] Tampa's first Major League player, manager, and Hall of Fame Inductee, exhibits characterized nearly 135 years of Tampa's rich baseball heritage. Since the beginning, teams from around Tampa Bay have represented immigrant communities, diverse cultures, and the expression of baseball as a universal language. The Tampa Baseball Museum will enrich the community through children's programming, heritage tourism, civic and economic development, and a fun celebration of the game.

The house was moved from its original location at 1210 E 12th Ave to the museum dedicated location at the corner of 19th Street and Ninth Avenue. The Tampa Baseball Museum is located at 2003 N. 19th Street.[4]

Famous Baseball Players from Tampa[]

Other than Al López, Tampa was home to many other baseball players including Lou Piniella, Tony La Russa, and Tino Martinez.[2]
