Tarsdorf is a municipality in the district of Braunau am Inn in the Austrian state Upper Austria.
Geography[]
Tarsdorf is located in the Innviertel. About 38 percent of its area consist of forest and 55 percent is made up of farmland.

History[]
Findings in the Weilhart-Forest show that the municipal area of Tarsdorf was already inhabited in the neolithic age. Tumuli have also been discovered, dating back to the Hallstatt period. The Illyrer who occupied the area at that time mixed with the celts arond 500 BC, who were coming from the west.
During the Roman predominance in the area the road from Salzburg to Burghausen lead through Tarsdorf aswell as Hofweiden and Hörndl. Several findings have been made between Hofweiden and Tarsdorf dating back to the first four centuries AC. These findings include the rests of a villa rustica, a millstone, the shards of a bowl, tiles belonging to an underfloor heating, pieces of plaster coming form walls decorated with depictions of flowers and a silver coin.
In the sixth centuries the immigrating Bajuwars, ancestors of today´s Bavarians, cleared large parts of the Weilhart-forest.
