The sixth series of The Bill, a British television drama, consisted of 104 episodes, broadcast between 2 January – 27 December 1990. The series was first released on DVD as part of the Collection 5 and Collection 6 DVD boxsets in Australia, made available on 9 April – 8 October 2008, respectively. The series was later reissued as two-half series boxsets in Australia, released on 7 March 2012. The above artwork is taken from the most recent Australian release. It features images of DC Tosh Lines and DI Frank Burnside. The original Collection box-sets contained sole images of PC Reg Hollis and DS Ted Roach. In the UK, the first nine episodes were released on DVD under the title Volume 7, on 2 September 2013.

A number of Audio Commentaries for Series 6 episodes have been recorded with cast and crew, including stars Larry Dann (Sgt. Alec Peters), Chris Humphreys (P.C. Richard Turnham), Jon Iles (D.C. Mike Dashwood) and Lynne Miller (W.P.C. Cathy Marshall), writers Russell Lewis, Garry Lyons and J.C. Wilsher, camera operator Alison Chapman and producer Tony Virgo.[1]

PC Hollis is organising a blood bank at the station, and Sgt. Peters is not happy. WPC Martella is sent to assist at an armed robbery, but hits a radio black spot – and no one at the station knows her whereabouts. DC Carver and DS Roach have a problem with their car, while trailing the robbery suspect. PC Stamp begins to feel unwell after giving blood.

Meanwhile, Carver is given a warning after finding the boy in a garage, on his second visit.

DS Roach suspects that DC Lines has something going on the side. Suspecting that he is moonlighting as a private detective, Sgt. Penny investigates, only to discover that Lines has in fact taken in a lodger, in breach of regulations, and decides to report him. Everyone from Sgt. Cryer to PC Hollis feels that Penny has gone too far.

WPC Martella and Sgt. Cryer are on night patrol, and they know it's going to be an interesting shift. First, they stop a lady wheeling a suitcase, looking for an address. They are then asked to assist PCs Stamp and Quinnan at a house disturbance, where a man is dropping his belongings off the roof. They then attend a burglar alarm, only to find the suitcase lady being chased by youths.

A robbery on a video shop leads DI Burnside to Michael Lovett, the son of a villain that he arrested twenty years previously. Realising that he has been set up by his snout, Burnside, DS Greig and DC Carver set up a trap to capture Lovett and all of his associates. Meanwhile, PC Stamp finds himself in deep water when a woman breaks a man's arm on his instructions.

DC Dashwood is approached by a snout with information about a potential gang war on the plot. DI Burnside is off with a bad back, and DS Greig is acting DI. Not happy with the snout's information, Greig makes Dashwood double check every last aspect. Ch. Insp. Conway, in the custody suite checking on prisoner detention times, is concerned about the prospect of a gang war.

A street festival that was due to have been cancelled is revealed as going ahead, meaning that the relief lose their weekend off. PC Hollis meets with Ch. Supt. Quinnan tries to cover it up when Turnham is blamed.

PC Melvin catches a suspect who has caused a disturbance after being caught fishing for something in a pond. The package is gun-shaped, but when the wrapping is removed, it turns out to be a diamond necklace. PC Turnham and WPC Datta are called to a break-in, but there are no signs of forced entry – and the only thing missing is a ring. Turnham and Datta get involved in a fight.

He is anxious to nip any racial problems in the bud. Meanwhile, WPC Datta arrests a man who has hit his daughter. WPC Ackland has problems getting crime victims to participate in a survey.

Animosity between Burnside and DI Gordon Wray from the Drugs Squad threatens the operation, but when they bust a crack house, it appears to be a stitch up for both Burnside and the suspects.
