The Catholic Standard & Times

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Catholic Standard & Times, Inc. was the official newspaper of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia and was published 50 times per year (except the week of July 4 and the last week of the year). It won numerous press awards from the and the Catholic Press Association and was a member of the latter.[1]

In 2011, the paper announced its move to a monthly schedule.[2] The paper was discontinued in July, 2012 due to declining revenues. During that same month, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia laid off over 40 employees. Three of these layoffs were newspaper employees.

Although the physical newspaper is no longer in publication, the website CatholicPhilly.com remains active and is the official news website of the archdiocese.
