The First Academy (TFA), founded in 1986, is a private Christian school in Orlando, Florida. The school serves approximately 1,400 students from Preschool to Grade 12.

Academics[]

The First Academy is an Orlando-based private, Christian school for students from preschool to 12th grade. It is an Apple Distinguished School and has been awarded Orlando's Best Private School by Orlando Magazine[1] and Southwest Orlando Bulletin[2] (seven years in a row).

Demographics[]

As of 2018 there were 522 students, of which 402 (77%) were white, 40 (8%) black, 34 (7%) Hispanic, and 12 (2%) Asian. 34 students (7%) responded as two or more races.[3] The community was 41% white, 20% black, 31% Hispanic, 5% Asian, and 2% two or more races.[4]

Athletics[]

As a member of the Florida High School Athletic Association[5] (FHSAA), The First Academy Royals participate in over 22 interscholastic sports at the varsity, junior varsity and middle school levels.

2016 Incident[]

In 2016, students at the school caused controversy by holding an "Instagram debate on the N-word"; some former students claimed to have experienced racism and homophobia while attending the institution. School officials denounced what had happened and implemented changes to improve race relations.[6][7][8]

The City Beautiful Invitational[]

The First Academy hosts a 16-team annual Christmas basketball tournament.[9]
