The Maiden Tsar
The Maiden Tsar (Russian: Царь-девица) is a Russian folktale. It appeared in print in Alexander Afanasyev's three-volume collection Narodnye russkie skazki, numbered 232 and 233.[1]

The tale is classified in the East Slavic Folktale Catalogue (SUS) as type 400/2,[2] "The Tsar Maiden", which corresponds, in the international catalogue of the Aarne-Thompson-Uther Index, to tale type ATU 400, "The Quest for the Lost Wife".[3]
