The New Museum (Det Nya Museet)

The New Museum (sv. Det Nya Museet) is a private museum located in the previous Mission Covenant Church in Sundbyberg, Stockholm, Sweden.

History[]

The museum is housed in the former missional church, also known as the Bethlehem church, which was designed in 1904 by Frans Lindskog and was built in 1904 — 1909. Mission Church, which is 675 square meters, is located in the corner of Sturegatan-Esplanaden in central Sundbyberg.[1] The Mission Church was part of the revival movement in Sweden who emerged during the 19th century with the model from England. The church was simplified in 2005. Then it was empty until 2008, when the art gallery Marabouparken for some time used the building as the exhibition room.[2]

Building[]

Since the church was built in 1909, it has undergone a number of changes and rebuilding. The entrance staircase was made in 1931 from having a direction towards the esplanade to instead walking parallel to the street. Extensive changes to the building were made both externally and internally in the 1950 — 1970s. Among other things, the large gable window was reduced and was given a modernist influenced, irregular audience. On the tower, parts of the decoration of the puts were removed together with decorative work. The entrance lot was also made on today's design in teak and glass, at the same time, the stairs were provided with a modern forging railing. The visibility of the church in the cityscape changed with the construction of the adjacent residential house in 1959 — 1960. From having had a space around the building, the church came to constitute the corner of the neighborhood. In the church room, the residential building had great influence on the lighting relationship when the southern windows were built for. The building's original color was white, today's red-brown colored church at a facade renovation in 1973.[3]
