The Philadelphia Trumpet is a free magazine published by the Philadelphia Church of God, also available online. The first issue appeared in February 1990.[1] The magazine's focus is on current events, societal commentary, and Bible based self-help articles, which often source Biblical writing as prophecy relating to world events.

The magazine's editor in chief Gerald Flurry, Pastor General of the PCG, characterizes the magazine as the successor to the Worldwide Church of God's The Plain Truth magazine, when under the direction of Herbert W. Armstrong. The magazine's advertisements consist solely of free-of-charge offers for PCG books, booklets and other materials.

Purpose[]

The Philadelphia Church of God claims to publish the Philadelphia Trumpet in the public interest, and deals with matters of social, family and environmental concern. It includes articles on international news, politics, philosophy, religion and education, especially where these have a bearing on the quality of life.[2]

Their stated purpose is to inform and educate, putting world events into true perspective and creating an awareness of the seriousness of the times in which we live.[3]

According to their website, they don't merely report the news, [they] explain it at the deepest level.[4] They assert to accurately forecast where world events are leading.[5]

The Philadelphia Trumpet doesn’t just report the news — it explains WHY the news happens. The Trumpet goes beyond analyzing current events, and dares to forecast what will happen in the months and years ahead. How do we do it? Simple. The Trumpet uses the Holy Bible as its primary resource. That’s right! The Trumpet relies on REVELATION FROM GOD.[6]

The Philadelphia Trumpet is their primary means of disseminating their beliefs, including current events according to their interpretation of Bible prophecy. Marketed as a free news magazine, they use it to promote their books and booklets and ultimately, to recruit members into their church.

Subscription fee[]

It is primarily used to recruit new members to their Church, the magazine itself along with literature promoted within each issue is offered free of charge. It is paid for by tithes and offerings of members of the Philadelphia Church of God and their co-workers[7]. All PCG members are required to pay ten percent of their income to the church.[8]
