The Powell Brothers

The Powell Brothers is an Americana/Country group from Kingwood, Texas. The group was formed by brothers Taylor and Blake Powell in February 2014.^[1]

Background[]

Blake and Taylor Powell are both multi-instrumentalists. They first toured together in 2006 as a hired backing musicians,^[1] and continued to play as such until Blake graduated from Kingwood High School in 2007, and Taylor in 2010. Post-graduation, both of the brothers briefly attended Berklee College of Music. In their individual careers, the brothers have worked as songwriters, producers, band members, music directors, and session players^[2] for more than 30 artists internationally, including: Drew Cline, Grace Pettis, Granger Smith, Haley Cole, Jon Wolfe, Sam Riggs and the Night People, Tucker Jameson, Shane Smith and the Saints, and Will Makar. In February 2014 they were both on the verge of pursuing separate careers on opposite sides of the United States, but instead, decided to form The Powell Brothers and focus on making their own music.^[3]

In June 2016, Chad W. Tolar, Esq. joined the team and was named a partner in Powell Brothers Productions, along with Taylor Powell and Blake Powell. The three partners also formed Tolar Powell Entertainment, LLC, a booking and management company based in McAllen, Texas.

The group has shared the stage with numerous top national and regional acts including Brothers Osborne, Billy Currington, Jon Pardi, Lee Brice, Cody Johnson, Josh Turner, Gary Allan, Granger Smith, Carly Pearce, Aaron Watson, Eli Young Band, Big & Rich, Pat Green, The Bellamy Brothers, Randy Rogers Band , Gary P. Nunn, Kevin Fowler, Montgomery Gentry, and many more. The Powell Brothers are a national touring act performing, on average, 160 dates across 25 states every year. The band has performed at legendary venues like Fremont Street in Las Vegas, in Chicago, Knuckleheads in Kansas City, in Nashville, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, in Folsom, House of Blues in Dallas, and White Oak Music Hall in Houston to name a few. ^[4]

THE POWELL BROTHERS is an American Country duo fronted by brothers Taylor Powell (lead vocals, guitar, bass) and Blake Powell (vocals, bass, guitar). With a unique blend of genres, thoughtful lyrics and superb musicianship, they have garnered and vast and diverse following. Releases include The Powell Brothers (2014 - EP), RCA Studio A Day 1 (2015 - EP), Introducing The Powell Brothers (2017 - EP), Leave On The Light (2019 - Full Length Album), Twenty Twenty (2021 - EP) and the single "Hopeless" (2021).

The Powell Brothers kicked off 2021 by releasing "Twenty Twenty,” a five track EP featuring the hit radio single “How It’s Done.” Taylor, Blake, drummer Mike Bishop Smith and sound engineer Blake Sessions spent lots of time together working on new music during the coronavirus pandemic. The team hunkered down at “The Farm,” a barn converted into an audio/video studio on The Powell Brothers’ farm outside of Houston, Texas. After several weeks of collaborating, the band emerged from the barn with a new edgy, hard hitting sound with major attitude. The signature sound features powerful electric guitar riffs backed by a driving drum beat and gritty bass tones. The band immediately recorded five songs from The Powell Brothers’ catalogue of released material. The result was “Twenty Twenty,” a pulse pounding, addictive musical elixir blending elements of County and Rock in a unique way that is unmistakably The Powell Brothers.

After releasing “Twenty Twenty” on February 5, 2021, Taylor and Blake Powell vowed to continuously push out new music throughout 2021. The Powell Brothers held true to their promise and just thirty days later, the group dropped the new single “Hopeless.” Don’t let the title fool you; this song is a roll the windows down, crank the volume up and put your foot on the gas Spring/Summer anthem! Blake Powell explains the song title like this: “Hopeless is based on all the backhanded compliments we've received on our journey from making music our lives to making music our livelihood. This song is for everyone who followed their dreams no matter what people said along the way.” The single is available now on all streaming sites, including Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Amazon Music, Google Play, Pandora and more.
