The iKon awards is an initiative that celebrates leaders and implementers in various fields of social development across the African continent.[1] The annual initiative presented by Reach a hand Uganda is aimed at mentoring and providing young people with skills to transform their communities.[2] It involves various stages ranging from the idea conception to mentorship via masterclasses, summits, courses and finally awarding well executed ventures.[3]

Background[]

The iKon awards initiative was born from the idea and need to reward outstanding innovations, influencers, and icons within the Ugandan community.[4] The goal of the initiative was to nurture and celebrate young talent while giving them the opportunity to impact social development within the community. During its launch in March 2021, His Majesty Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV of Tooro Kingdom, was named patron for the initiative during its initial Launch.[5][6]
