This Is Going to Hurt is an upcoming internationally co-produced drama television series created by Adam Kay. It is based upon his memoir of the same name. It stars Ben Whishaw as a National Health Service employee working through the ranks of hospital hierarchy. In the United States, the series will air on AMC and in the United Kingdom on BBC One.

A man works his way up through the ranks of hospital hierarchy, as he clings to his personal life which is affected by the long hours and stressful decisions.

Development[]
In September 2017, it was announced Sister Pictures had acquired television rights to This Is Going to Hurt by Adam Kay, with Kay serving as writer and executive producer.[1] In June 2018, it was announced BBC Two had given the series an 8-episode order.[2] AMC will co-produce the series. Production companies involved in the series include Sister, Terrible Productions, BBC Studios and AMC Studios, with BBC Studios handling international distribution.[3] Tom Kingsley and Lucy Forbes serve as directors.[4]
Casting[]
In June 2020, Ben Whishaw joined the cast in the leading role.[5] In June 2021, Harriet Walter, Ambika Mod, Alex Jennings, Michele Austin, Kadiff Kirwan, Ashley McGuire, Rory Fleck Byrne, and Tom Durant-Pritchard joined the cast of the series.[6][7]

Principal photography began by February 2021.[8]
