Production[]
Ticket to Paradise is a romantic comedy written by Ol Parker and Daniel Pipski. It is an American co-production between Working Title Films, Smokehouse Pictures, and Red Om Films. The feature film was announced on February 26, 2021, with George Clooney and Julia Roberts set to star and Parker attached to direct for Universal Pictures. Ticket to Paradise reunites Clooney and Roberts after Ocean's Eleven (2001), Ocean's Twelve (2004), and Money Monster (2016). Deadline Hollywood noted that Universal was planning on theatrically releasing the film and said it was "important to those wondering when film studios are going to stop selling pricey star packages to streamers". Insiders also told Deadline that Universal executives were quick to prevent streaming sites from acquiring the film's distribution rights.[3]
In preparation for his role, Clooney used a Keto-based regimen to lose weight.[4] In March 2021, Billie Lourd entered negotiations to star.[5] On March 9, Paul Fletcher, the Australian Minister for Communications and the Arts, announced filming would take place in Queensland, Australia, in locations including the Whitsunday Islands, the Gold Coast, and Brisbane. In a statement, he said the film would receive a grant of AU$6.4 million (US$4.92 million) and that it would generate at least 270 jobs and AU$47 million (US$36.2 million) for the local economy.[6] Lourd and Kaitlyn Dever were confirmed as cast members in April 2021,[7] and Lucas Bravo was cast in October.[8] Principal photography began in November 2021.[9] Tangalooma Island Resort on Moreton Island and The Palm Bay Resort on Long Island were also used as filming locations.[10][11][12] In January 2022, production was put on halt due to a rise of COVID-19 cases in Queensland. The production had two weeks left to shoot but had to pause for at least three months because of the pandemic.[13]
Release[]
Ticket to Paradise is scheduled to be theatrically released by Universal Pictures on October 21, 2022.[14] It was originally set to be released on September 30, 2022.[15] It will be streamed on Peacock 45 days after its theatrical debut.[16]
