Timur Turlov (Russian: Тимур Русланович Турлов; born November 13, 1987, Moscow) is a Kazakh[1][2] entrepreneur and financier, founder of Freedom Finance Investment Company and the head of Freedom Holding Corp. Headquarter in Almaty.

He is a major shareholder of Freedom Holding Corp with a share of 72.56% of shares.[3] The current company’s capitalization is estimated at $4 billion (Nasdaq: FRHC).[4][5]

According to Forbes, Turlov took the 1,517st position out of 2,755 of the richest people all over the world.[6][7]

Education[]

In 2009 he graduated from Moscow Aviation Technology University (MATI) as economist manager.[8]

Early career[]

For the first time, Turlov got interested in stock market investments while studying at school.[9]

Right after graduating high school in 2003, he started working in the Moscow branch of World Capital Investments (WCI), an American investment company. He worked as a trader.[10][11]

In 2005, Turlov was hired by Yutreyd.ru, a subsidiary of “Uniastrum Bank” (Moscow), to deal with the American stock market operations. He succeeded and built an infrastructure, which gave a unit an access to US stock exchanges. During the 2008 global financial crisis, Uniastrum Bank was sold to the Bank of Cyprus and the trading unit where Turlov worked was closed.[12][13] Back then, he and his colleagues decided to use their knowledge and experience to run their own company.[14]

Freedom Finance Investment Company[]

In 2008, Timur Turlov founded the Freedom Finance Investment Company,[15][16] which provides access to US stock exchanges and brokerage services.[citation needed]

In 2011, Turlov and his family moved to Kazakhstan, where two years later he opened the subsidiary Freedom Finance JSC.[17]

In 2015, Turlov became the main shareholder of Freedom Holding Corp.[18] He used this brand to put Freedom Finance Investment Company, Freedom Finance JSC, Freedom24 and Freedom Finance Bank under one umbrella label.[19]

2015 – 2018 – subsidiaries of Freedom Holding were opened in Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Germany and Cyprus. In 2019, Timur Turlov made the holding public through a listing on the American technology stock exchange Nasdaq.[20][21][22][23]

As of 2021, Freedom Holding Corp. operates in 13 countries, including the USA.[24][25]

Personal life[]

Timur Turlov is married and has six children.[26]
