Travis Willingham is an American voice actor. He is a cast member of the web series Critical Role, in which he and other voice actors play Dungeons & Dragons.[1] He is also the chief executive officer of Critical Role Productions.[2][3] His most notable voice portrayals include Roy Mustang in the Fullmetal Alchemist franchise, Portgas D. Ace in One Piece, Knuckles the Echidna in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise and Thor in several Marvel projects.[4][5]
Early life[]
Willingham was born in 1981 and grew up in East Dallas. He has a younger brother named Carson. Willingham struggled with ADD in his childhood. Their father died when Travis was a teenager.[6][7][8] He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1999,[9] and studied at Texas Christian University.
Career[]
Willingham rose to prominence in the voice acting world for his portrayal of Roy Mustang in Fullmetal Alchemist,[10] which he later reprised in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.[11] His other notable roles include Yu Kanda in D.Gray-man, Cleo in Glass Fleet, Ginko in Mushishi, Portgas D. Ace in the Funimation re-dub of One Piece and Takashi Morinozuka in Ouran High School Host Club. He also voices Thor in several Marvel projects and King Roland II in Disney Junior's Sofia the First. From 2010 to 2018, he was the voice of Knuckles the Echidna in the Sonic the Hedgehog series.[4][5]
Willingham is also a cast member of the popular Dungeons & Dragons web series Critical Role, where he played Grog in Campaign One and Fjord in Campaign Two.[1][12] After becoming hugely successful, the Critical Role cast left the Geek & Sundry network in early 2019 and set up their own production company, Critical Role Productions;[13][14][3][15] Willingham serves as chief executive officer.[2] Soon after, they aimed to raise $750,000 on Kickstarter to create an animated series of their first campaign, but ended up raising over $11 million.[16][1] In November 2019, Amazon Prime Video announced that they had acquired the streaming rights to this animated series, now titled The Legend of Vox Machina;[17] Willingham will reprise his role as Grog.[18]
Personal life[]
Willingham married voice actress Laura Bailey, whom he had previously dated, on September 25, 2011.[19][20][21][22] They reside in Los Angeles. Their son, Ronin, was born on June 28, 2018.[23][24]
Willingham is a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys.[25] He enjoys participating in triathlons.[26]
