Uğur Erdener (born June 15, 1950) is a Turkish physician specialized in ophthalmology and professor at the Hacettepe University, Ankara.[citation needed] He is currently a member of the International Olympic Committee and President of the National Olympic Committee of Turkey.[citation needed]

Early years[]

Uğur Erdener was born on 25 June 1950 in Trabzon.[citation needed] Upon completion of his elementary school education in Van, he attended the secondary school in Bandırma and graduated from the Gazi High School in Ankara.[citation needed] He enrolled in the School of Medicine of the Hacettepe University.[citation needed] After graduating with his medical degree in 1977, he completed a residency in Ophthalmology at Hacettepe University.[citation needed]

Career[]

Erdener has spent all of his professional life, both as a physician and as a faculty member at the School of Medicine of the Hacettepe University.[citation needed] He became an Associate Professor in 1996 and Professor of Ophthalmology with specialization in Oculoplastic Surgery in 2001.[citation needed] Erdener became the General Director and CEO of the Hacettepe University Hospitals and later, in 2007, he was elected and appointed Rector of the University and served as such until 2011.[citation needed] Prof. Dr. Uğur Erdener, currently serving as an Academic at the Department of Ophthalmology, has published over 60 articles in both foreign and domestic journals.[citation needed]

He is the President of the National Olympic Committee of Turkey since 2011 and an International Olympic Committee (IOC) member since 2008.[citation needed] He also serves as an Executive Committee and Foundation Board Member of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and Chair of the IOC Medical Commission.[citation needed] He was elected as the IOC Executive Board Member and Council Member of ASOIF in 2014.[citation needed]

Family life[]

Uğur Erdener was married to , a former archer and archery judge.[1] In his second marriage, he is with Zafer.[citation needed] He has three children and one grandchild.[2]
