History[]

UM Motorcycles has its origins in Miami, FL USA, and has been claiming U.S. roots since the United Motors brand was registered with the USTPO in the year 1999 under registration serial number 78658881. Recognizing growing demand for motorcycle products worldwide, UM entered the powersports market in the early 2000's by forging agreements with large motorcycle manufacturers in China and Taiwan to introduce those products to the U.S and Latin American markets. In 2005, UM signed a manufacturing agreement with S&T (Hyosung Motorcycles of Korea) to introduce 650cc motorcycles in the US market through UM's USA Distributor. On Feb 1, 2010, UM's Distributor in the USA closed its operations due to the US financial crisis that took a toll on the complete industry and caused 50% of motorcycle dealers to close due to low demand. UM continued doing business in several Latin American markets and in 2014, UM announced their entry to India by granting the Distribution rights to a Company (UM Asia). In 2016 UM's expansion continued into the European and African continents.

KAS (Keyless Alarm System) is a system to recognise the UM bike owner's presence within 1.2 metres of the bike, and subsequently start the bike without a key. BSM (Blind Spot Mirror System) is a system where the rear view mirrors have a section on the outer corner with a blind spot mirror, allowing the rider to spot vehicles in the blind spot area.
