Uptown Hutch, formally the Hutchinson Mall is the only mall in Hutchinson, KS. The next closest mall is the Towne West Mall in Wichita, KS about 40 miles to the Southeast.

History[]

The mall first opened in 1986 anchored by Walmart, Service Merchandise, Dillard's, JC Penney, and Newmans Department Store.[1] Walmart left the mall in 1995 and its space became a Hobby Lobby.[1] Service Merchandise closed in 1997.[1] The natural gas explosions in Reno County did not help the mall any and drove away traffic.[1] In March of 2012, Dillards announced that they would close in June of that year.[2] In January of 2014 Sears announced that they would close their store at the mall by April as Sears decided to not renew their lease.[3] During the summer of 2016, Dunham's Sports began hiring for a store the company would put in the mall by October that would replace the Sears.[4] In February of 2017, JC Penney announced that the company would be closing their location at the Hutchinson Mall.[5] At the time of JC Penney's closure, the mall had 36 vacant store fronts.[5]
